OK! Steer me down the Marillion path...

What's Hot
Long story short lol
I recently picked up a TC2290 and love the sounds. Through the internet and reading up on the 2290 I came across our own @Gadget ' top site www.tc2290.com and the audio samples on it.
I listened to "Berlin" by Marillion and remembered Kayleigh (Of course) so I started spotifying a few tracks and quite like it.

Can some fanboi's plan out my listening for me =)

  • Any true fan won’t be able to recommend individual tracks...only whole albums! ;)

    Top three Fish-era albums:
    Fugazi
    Misplaced Childhood
    Clutching At Straws

    Top three H-era albums:
    FEAR
    Brave
    Season’s End

  • As there were only four Fish-era albums, I feel bad leaving out their first album ‘Script for a Jester’s Tear’ as it’s a classic!

  • Clutching At Straws is probably in my top 5 albums ever..

Sounds That Can't Be Made is also a great H-era album..

Why not hit a live album?

    My trading feedback

is it crazy how saying sentences backwards creates backwards sentences saying how crazy it is?

  • I think the best route in is Misplaced Childhood to get them at their early peak (Clutching at Straws is wonderful but it’s the start of Fish’s exit). Then I’d get straight into Brave and FEAR to show what they’re capable of beyond that (Season’s End is lightweight in comparison).

Anyone who suggests sticking with the early stuff and denying their progression (pun intended) is really an early Genesis fan in disguise ;)

CaS is a very nostalgic album for me!

I saw the Brave Live concert recently and they really nailed it.

  • Brave is one of my all time favourite albums, I think it's the band's best work.

Also take a listen to Steve Rothery's album The Ghosts of Pripyat.

    Thanks for the kind comments.

Fugazi and Script were the sound of my youth :)

As well as all the aforementioned, check out 'The Thieving Magpie' live album and 'B-Sides Themselves'.
    I think, therefore.... I... ummmm........

Have a listen to their rather poppy 'Holidays in Eden' and that's post-Fish and features Steve Hogarth. There's some lovely clean chorused and delay sounds and it's even a bit U2-y in places

  • Fish - Misplaced Childhood & Clutching At Straws
    H - Marbles & This Strange Engine

Brave & FEAR are great but took me a while to get into

I dearly love the 4 Fish era albums, my order of preference being the order they came out in.

The H era I just don't rate in the same ballpark personally. I have 8 of them and I don't find anything that memorable. Those first 4 Fish albums are chock full of wonderfully emotive guitar solos (and good keyboard ones as well). The only track after that that is on the same level for me is Easter.

As mentioned, Rothery's solo album is superb. He should quit the band and go solo if you ask me!

  • Horses for courses. I'm not really into the Fish era stuff.

In the same way that I like both, but I'd rather listen to Pink Floyd than early Genesis.

  • I saw Marillion when Fish was still in there, I went with a mate from work as we had a wonderfully tenuous link to the band. If you look at the Script For A Jester’s Tear art work it included one of our of company ashtrays. Obviously in the days when companies thought it was a nice idea to give out promotional ash trays.*
For some reason that escapes me now I was given a free copy of the first Hogarth era album which I thought was terrible and that was me out. He was also useless on Celebrity Pointless.
That’s me done, apologies to the OP that I haven’t helped in any way.

    * yes I worked for Fischer's Automatische Gussstahlkugelfabrik.
