What a great story (and a very good friend). And thanks, you've just prompted me to check I had noted the serial no of my guitar. I have some good pics to show unique flaws and pattern, which I had presumed would be enough for identification, but on checking I hadn't noted the serial so I've rectified that omission. Enjoy your new old guitars!

I have used drier sheets in the case to get rid of smells.  It worked for me after a flood affected about 10 guitars.

Excellent news - I was briefly hopeful a few weeks ago, and then I thought they had gone for good. What a turnaround, and free from you having to immerse into a potentially dodgy confrontation.

That's fabulous news - really pleased for you. 

I did go through a lot of archiving last time I renewed our insurance - photos & receipts of everything I could find, all saved to a couple of different cloud locations. That included getting valuations of a couple of things I bought used that have since appreciated - Coda were happy to assist with that remotely, which was fantastic of them. I'd highly recommend everyone doing the same.
