I'm starting this thread in antisioation of a parts caster build but as it stands I have no parts

But I have bought a MIM strat body from a fellow forum member and I am just awaiting it to arrive.

I do already own a Roland ready Mex strat with 3 single coils so I'm thinking this one will be HH strat. I am very tempted by the vanson 57 classics

I'm still on the look out for a neck

So the body arrived and it is all in good shape. I will need to cut out to fit a neck humbucker.

But I need some advice on necks. Will any Chinese no brand neck work or do I need to avoid 22 fret necks

I have found with cheap necks, the boards can be very dry and the fretwork is generally rubbish and needs quite a bit of attention. Also will need a new nut.

Depends what you want to spend, but tempus guitars, on ebay or instagram, do good stuff and will make to order if not already in stock. I don't know the price of his necks, but I recently spent 90 quid on a two piece ash tele body, as a reference point for you. It's lovely too. Soon to be butterscotch nitro!

It all comes down to what you are wanting to spend really. But, for me, a duff neck ruins the whole thing as it's the part of the guitar you are most in contact with really.

    I have a HSS Strat:
    • Fender MIM body
    • Warmoth neck with roller nut
    • Seymour Duncan JB humbucker
    • Tonerider City Limits single coils
    • Stock Fender bridge
    • Fender tuners
    • Schaller Straplocks

I've also got another I'm working on; I wandered into a shop and came out with the body and then have been putting the other parts to it:
    • Fender MIM body
    • Fender MIM neck
    • Fender tuners
    • Schaller Floyd bridge
    • Seymour Duncan JB (Floyd spacing) humbucker
    • Seymour Duncan single coils
    • 10-position Freeway switch, which adds humbucker/single coil switching and also neck+bridge
    • The hardware is gold coloured - I need a locking nut & bar

    Cheers!
The one with the Warmoth neck is really good - well worth picking up if you happen across one.

Justin mentions at 13:00 a high pass filter on the volume pot on his new guitar. Is that a treble bleed or something else?

I decided to strip the body. The finish was in good condition but I really did not like the colour. And I can say someone at fender went to a lot of effort to glue all those bit of wood together to make a body  :o

This weekend I have been mostly painting the body. I bought some nitro paints from Manchester guitar tech and I'm quite pleased with the results so far. Although the patchwork nature of the body does show through on some areas.

I bought a squire neck via the forum and have upgraded the trem with a brass block from Northwest guitars. I did need to modify the trem plate as the arm hole did not line up with the hole in the block.

Here you can see where I opened up the hole for the arm. It does not look terrible but this guitar will not be a masterpiece that's for sure

I long do I need to let the paint harden before I can start screwing parts onto it

I think it's a good idea to let the nitro harden for a few weeks, maybe a month.

Well I have a functioning guitar. I'm not saying it's finished because it needs some setup work and maybe some other mods like better dot markers

Oh and a few more pickgurd screws
