When I was dating the future MrsTheWeary we had a romantic weekend in Paris. We were in a candle lit restaurant and an accordion player came to the table, realised we were English and proceeded to play the Birdie Song.
Been watching more of those TOTP 1990s episodes, Jive Bunny and the Master Mixers - bloody hell, who was buying those?
Also meant I’ve heard the Candy Flip version of Strawberry Fields Forever. FFS.
Whilst I’m on - anything by Boney M.
Cinderella Rockefella by Esther and Abi. I don’t hate it but much like Shaddupa Yer Face ( that kept Vienna by Ultravox off the number one slot!) it was a major hit that we seem to have made a collective decision to try to forget.
Leaving On A Jet Plane and 59th Street Bridge Song; both were sung every sodding day at the American summer camp I worked on in 1981. I used to pray for the plane to crash into the bloody bridge.
Whenever someone asks this question the song that always springs to mind is Karma Chameleon, for some reason. I thinks it's an awful song yet it was at number one for eons wasn't it.
Honorable mention to Brian Adams and Everything I do blah blah blah.

I quite like Karma Chameleon although I’d agree on the Adams one. Possibly even worse was the one he did with Sting and Rod Stewart ( All for One?).
Ernie (the fastest milkman in the west) by Benny Hill
Mouldy old Dough by Lieutenant Pidgeon
Annie's Song by John Denver
Save Your Love by Renee and Renato
Mistletoe and Wine by Cliff Richard
If you haven't heard any of the above then sink to your knees and thank whatever God you believe in.
I think you have to exempt xmas songs from this list as they are almost by definition awful.
I don’t mind Mouldy Old Dough but you do wonder how the hell it ever became a hit. Which teenagers in 1972 were spending their pocket money on that and listening to it over and over on their dansettes.
My sister had the James Galway version of Annie’s Song on a single, that’s a real test of grit and determination to listen to all of that.

But I'm not sure it is awful. I like it. I also like some of the other songs mentioned already.

Tonight by New Kids on the Block, partly because it contains one of the worst lyrics of all time...
Remember when we traveled 'round the world
We met a lot of people and girls
...so the mystery of why girls aren’t people.
