  • They look remarkably similar to eastmans with slightly different spec. I know they are maybachs cheaper line - made in China -

I have a Stanford acoustic that, I believe, was made by Furch in the Czech Republic. There was also a cheaper Stanford line made in (IIRC) China. I wasn't aware of any electrics being made.

I've read that the Stanford, and later Stonebridge, brands were an anglicised brand name chosen by Furch because it's actually pronounced "furk" and that, apparently, sounds like f**k. Needless to say anglophones tend to pronounce Furch to rhyme with "church" and so they needn't have bothered and seem to have reverted to their proper name for UK and US sales.

(They did however decide that as they'd simplified the branding, they could Furch things up again by introducing a torturous model hierarchy based mostly on colour names but with three "vintage" series and some that are just numbers. Seriously, check out the https://furchguitars.com/us/guitar-name-decoder/ !!!)

Still, I digress. Somewhere in the back of my mind there was a German connection with Stanford guitars and that seems to be bourne out by your link.

All a bit vague so sorry about that. Certainly at the price, I'd expect them to be very good. If they're made by Eastman, that's exactly what I'd expect. (I've just bought an Eastman acoustic and it's very well made.)

Looks like they're copying the Nik Huber neck joint and cutaway - there's another German connection.

Interestingly, the Stanford Website (https://stanford-guitars.com/) still has only acoustics.

The news section links to Facebook, which does have clips and pictures of the electrics but almost no information about woods used, components, finish, manufacture etc. which strikes me as odd.

Very much selling to the continental European market and based in Germany by the look of things.

Interesting offerings, but I can't say I'm a fan of that toggle-switch placement on the LP models - it just looks out of place! If they're anything close to Maybach or Eastman quality though then they'll be very good indeed

  • So, a few months on - anyone had a go on any of these yet?

I've been tempted by a rather nice looking 330-alike on Facebook Marketplace, but no idea if they're any better value than your standard Epi Casino...

I've got an old Stanford acoustic. Maybe 10-15 years old? I like it a lot.

I'm not sure if the new ones are made in the same factory but the QC of mine is a mark above my Epiphones, maybe about the same as my Eastman.

Bit of a bump from the depths but did anyone happen to try one of these yet? I've seen a few positive YouTube videos but it would be a lot of money to drop without trying it first and they're only available from Thomann I think. Really like the idea of the CR Marquee, the lighter body and flat top are appealing to me as someone who likes the singlecut shape but not the weight or bulky feel. I wonder if they're neck heavy, apparently they only weigh 5-6lbs which is even less than my SG

Any more info on these guitars?

Their semis look to be a genuine alternative to Eastman; nitro finish and all!

The CR Marquee looks like a very interesting modern take on the LP design with some genuine innovations, not least ify all the weight!
