Recommendations for a single or dual channel mic preamp around £500 or under?

What's Hot
What would you suggest as a mic preamp for vocals in the £500 or less range?

Cheers.

I've got a FMR RNP 'really nice preamp' and RNC 'really nice compressor' that I could be persuaded to part with...also got a custom 1U strip for racking them which I'd throw in. Have a Google and drop me a PM if you're interested.

You'd have a two channel mic pre and comp and have plenty of change from your budget.

Interesting! Someone local to me might have a Focusrite ISA One for sake that I’d been pondering but I’ll check out the RNP & RNC.

  • I would suggest Focusrite ISA one. Great preamp and di. Plus you can treat them as separate channels. Add to that the direct monitoring it gives you a lot of options.

    Yep, this.

Not much of a fan of the ISA One btw.

  • I’ve found the Black lion Audio B173 is an excellent preamp for vocals.

Worth checking out some reviews of the Art Pro MPA II.

The ISA One is a solid pre, but it's a bit boring if you want it to do something. The impedance options are nice & useful in some circumstances.

I've been pleased with the GAP Pre I got last year. There's a few different versions about and they're not all equal in terms of build quality or components, so it's worth doing some reading. And obviously their online reputation will be a bit clouded by the way they can be directly compared to Neve preamps which go for vastly greater sums.

Warm Audio Tonebeast (or WA12 if you want to pay a little less).
