Gotta go for Tim Gane from Stereolab.

He manages to make a single chord sound interesting. And when he plays a second...cripes !!

Jack White for me (stuck record as usual)
I know it's childish but I've never been able to take Jack White seriously since Noel Gallagher described him as  "Zorro on doughnuts".

Ha, Jack probably would reply with "Sorry, Noel who?"

    Cory Wong

He would be a bad choice as I’d just stop playing and listen to him.

  • Steve Jones, Keef, Noel Gallagher, Bonehead, Billie Joe Armstrong, James Hetfield, Malcolm Young. All serve the role well and played for the song.

Marr on electric, Bert Jansch and the way he bounces between time signatures on the acoustic.

I think the standard of rhythm playing in metal over the last decade or so has got so ridiculously good it's hard to pick out someone who really stands out as exceptional and it more comes down to composition for me....the guy from monuments is a bit of a beast I guess.

Very good shout on Bert Jansch, his rhythms and changes are incredible and try still sound perfectly correct in context. Amazing musician

Bonamassa.  Love him or hate him his rhythm guitar is solid.

Mark Lettieri is the one I’ve been most impressed with recently. For all his virtuosity he always seems to stay the right side of the line where funk rhythm guitar can stop serving the music and tip over into “look at me” self-indulgence. I don’t feel the same way about the likes of Corey Wong who has amazing chops but never makes any music I want to sit down and listen to. YMMV etc.
