I got this as part of payment for some demos I did for Yamaha in February this year. It’s a GREAT guitar, a Les Paul killer and was the pick of the bunch on demo day but surplus to my requirements. It’s factory fresh with under an hours playing on it. Still got all of the protective plastic on the scratch plate, cavity covers, truss rod cover and stop tail.

Set up is flawless, really tasty fretwork and some nice hardware appointments such as a pair of Seymour Duncan ’59s, a Graph Tech nut, Tone Pros bridge and tailpiece and Grover locking tuners. Nice, dark rosewood fingerboard and a solid hardcase too.

Looking for offers around £1700 £1600 £1500 £1350. These are £2k from most shops and this one is BRAND SPANKING new.

I’m based in London W14.

Happy to ship the guitar within the UK.

**Weighs in around 9.3ish lbs on the kitchen scales**

Cheers,

Charlie

Great guitars, these. How's the weight, though?  Every one of these I've tried has been 10lb plus. I'd be very keen on this if it were a good notch lighter.

It’s a non weight relieved solid mahogany/maple guitar that’s (and everyone forgets this) actually thicker in body depth than a Les Paul. If you want under 9lb. I think I’d try and find the 80’s ‘S’ series which are 7mm thinner, or the 90’s SG700, which again has the thinner body. There’s also the tremelo equipped SG1300t’s which again are thinner.

For years, I stuck with the MSG/Image. Good workhorse guitars with a little less mass than the SG. Again, the body depth is slimmer.
I was merely wondering if there were any SG models out there that has lighter Mahogany.9.3 pounds could be the lightest I've heard of. Mahogany can vary a lot in weight but Yamaha are very consistent when it comes to the SG and the notorious weight.

Just done a little test to see how accurate my kitchen scales are and it seems the reading is a little under what I think it should be:

I bought a guitar from Coda Music a few years ago, I have a picture taken by Coda of that exact same guitar on their scales - it weighs just over 7.2lbs - just weighed the same guitar on the kitchen scales at home and it comes in at just over 7.1lbs.

Based on that, I'd guess that the SG weighs around 9.4 - 9.5lbs. Hope this helps.
