Loch Arkaig Ospreys

What's Hot
This captivated me in 2020 - a pair of Ospreys raising a family of three during the summer.

Having arrived and settled in, Aila laid three eggs, which hatched and grew into three fine youngsters. It was amazing seeing them feed, grow and then eventually take their first flights before migrating later in the year.

Fingers crossed, any day now will see the return of Louis and Aila...

Any day now eh? The Ospreys nesting in my area have returned. They supposedly fly over the estuary near my house regularly, but I've yet to knowingly see one. Here's footage of one of the nests, the female has returned for the 18th year "To date, she has successfully raised 41 chicks, and has at least 100 grand-chicks and four great grand-chicks"! (the 2 are in the nest as I type this, one is feasting on a fish).

Rutland Water near me has a pair back already, with more being tracked to arrive soon. They occasionally come over my way on fishing trips but I don't think I've ever seen one without binoculars and at a dedicated spotting location. There's a trout farm locally that actively encourages them for the photography, apparently they don't eat too many of the stock so it's all good.
