I got over small valve amps

Any yet I want more.  Can’t help thinking my 5E3 would be great with an AC15 and Deluxe Reverb.
Most of us have the classic guitars why not the classic amps?

I like bigger amps but space, weight etc makes it a bit harder but there’s almost no point in not owning a selection of small classic combos (other than the expense).  Seems we wrongly prioritise guitars sometimes, when amps are instruments in their own right.  Would be great for the studio (says me who always plans to replace Helix parts with the valve amp but hardly ever does because in a mix modelled sounds are so good).

Random musings really, but shouldn’t we all own a few of the portable classics at least once?

Currently looking at the 64 deluxe reverb, or similar from Rift or Flynn etc

  • I'm currently going through a phase where I'm seeking small amps over big ones. I've ended up with a Victory Copper Deluxe and enjoying it more than I thought I would, it's really nice!

You may want to try a Copper V4 if you want that Vox sound but for one of your existing amps (works best with an FX loop though). Otherwise, I can highly recommend one of the Copper amps.

Personally I stick with Vox style amps in various sizes. They work for me and I use the ones that fits the application.

I've got a 30w combo, 15w combo and head and a ZVex Nano which isn't a vox design but I like it.

I've not bought an amp since 2019 but trawling through a site for pedals I found a hiwatt 100w head...

Too big, too loud, too expensive, probably made by bad people, then why do I want one?

Amps are important but they become another obsession if you're not careful.

There's almost nothing better than a DR, imo. Obviously it's next to useless if you want to play Van Halen or Metallica, but it's just *that sound* for me.

I got over valve amps. I haven’t gigged with one for over ten years. (I do still play guitar as well as bass.)

I do own one, but only because it belonged to a good friend who is no longer with us - it’s nice, but I rarely use it. I’m unlikely to buy another one - I’m completely happy with solid state now.

Small amps are the future! Well they are for me anyway. I had back surgery 5 years ago and haven’t moved a “big” amp since. The plus side is that you can have more amps taking up the same space.
Currently, Gartone 5E3, vintage ‘65 Deluxe Reverb, vintage ‘61 6G3 Deluxe, 1980 Champ II, and a 1980 Park Lead 50. The Park is the heaviest, but I’ve put a neo Creamback in it to help.

You've literally described me here - even down to the Hiwatt thing. It's an obsession, for sure. I'm trying my best to wean myself off it. This Copper is a step in the right direction, just trying to be satisfied with one thing rather than many. I think what's helped me is that I found what I think is a good solution to my high gain needs in Amplitube 5 Marshall and Mesa models. It's put me at peace with the situation a lot more.

  • A deluxe reverb *is* my big amp!

  • Agreed.

Given more time and money, I would probably add an old Vox & Fender to my gear, just for the hell of it. And a 100watt Marshall head to boot (Let's face it, there are 24hr rehearsal rooms about now that have a couple of 4x12 cabs in there as standard)

I've only had two amps in 20 odd years and never sold one yet.

Not exactly a classic amp, but my JTM30 2x10 combo does the Marshall thing well, while having Fender like cleans from the Eminence speakers.

My SV20h 'Plexi' with matching 2x12 vertical cab is bloody awesome, and versatile. It's pretty portable as the cab is light enough to carry up and down stairs - probably easier than carrying a heavy combo one-handed with a strap handle.

+1 . . . Well put @stickyfiddle ; . . . its "that" sound for me too . . . The Fender Deluxe Reverb is a great Amp and its still as popular as ever . . a Handwired Version would be a BIG Cherry on a rather large Cake but even the Stock Tube Driven 65 DRRI is a wonderful Amp.
Id just like to point out that, despite all the video and DNA evidence, it genuinely wasn't me, your Honour  !

Small valve amps rule here too. The current crop is: 1972 Deluxe Reverb, Rift PR18, Rift 12 watt 5e3 with reverb, Cornell Plexi 18/20 head, Dr Z Z-Plus Studio. Until about half a dozen years ago I always took the Cornell to gigs, with a heavy Marshall 2061CX 2x12 cab. As I approached my 60s I got fed up with lugging the 2x12 around so I changed to combos with reverb and bought a 1x12 Cornell cab with Tone Tubby Red Alnico, for extra spread. I love small combos but I can’t bring myself to get rid of the Plexi head as it sounds sooo good!
