Accidently ordered from fake website....

What's Hot
I was after a pair of 90s sunglasses for a 90s themed get together a few friends are having (COVID safe!) and thought I'd go for some Pit Vipers from the US as I can use them for cycling and running too.

I ordered from https://www.pitvipershops.com/ which I now know to be fake, I thought those discounts were too good to be true!

I paid via PayPal which is a relief, but entered by 'proper' email rather than the throw away one I normally use for online shopping to save getting put on mailing lists etc.

Is there anything I should be doing other than raising a PayPal claim?

If you created an account (unlikely as you paid by Paypal) then make sure the password you used on the site isn't the same as any other passwords you use.

I don't know anything about fake websites . Check your PayPal account, if you have paid someone,  you  will get your money back . Would a fake websit be using pay pal ? How would that work?

It was, silly I know! I'll have to go through and change all of the passwords for accounts asscociated with that email. Mainly shopping websites.

The website wasn't fake as such, they just sell fakes of the product under a really convincing website. If I do nothing I expect I will receive something as there are a large number of fake PitVipers floating around, but obviously I don't want them.

When you use PayPal on a website  , you don't have access to any details regarding PayPal . The coustomer is directed to PayPal . So , this dodgy site will not have any information about you, other than what you have input to their site, so you should not worry too much .

  • Thanks all. I stupidly created an account on the site which is my only worry. PayPal stuff sorted.

Report them to pit vipers so that their IP protection team can start taking steps to get the website taken down.

Amazon are finally starting to take the qty of fake goods sold on their platform seriously after years of not giving a shit. Legislation and pressure both from the EU and USA has made them take an active interest and they are now actively working with manufacturers. It’s been a big change over the last 6 months.

Looking at what I think is the real Pit Viper website, I wouldn't even trust that!
    https://pitvipersunglasses.com/

I quite like some of the marketing style, but it does make me wonder if it's a scam site which is double-bluffing.

That is the legitimate site for sure, I know it looks suspicious but the whole 90s thing is there selling point. I emailed their support and they thanked me for letting them know and included the info that guitartango found. They replied with a thank you message and pointed me to the URL above.

Yet try listing a Boss pedal without eBay's seven bells of counterfeit hell pointing the finger at you for being a Hugo Boss copyist.
