Ground noise

What's Hot
So I’ve put in a new harness and pups into a 56 LP and found a lot of noise from what must be a ground issue. The 60hz hum is there ofc but also something akin to a woodpecker-like clicking sound unless both volumes are at 0.

Any idea what this could be? I’ve taken some shorts of the cavity to highlight the wiring here:

Its a pre-wired harness and I followed the 6 string supplies diagram here:

Interestingly I get the same also the same on my baja Tele and my HB lp std. so is it the amp? A fender mustang gt40. Well it could be but my electro acoustic has no issue whatsoever. Puzzling!

Very grateful for any insight as to what this could be.

Ok so it must be the amp. Realised I have GarageBand on my phone so plugged in. No woodpecker! Have I got a ridiculous noise gate setting on or something...

You will be getting a fair bit of hum and RF interference from the P90 single coil pickups.

If one of the pickups was built with a reverse wound coil and reverse polarity bar magnets, you should get some hum-cancellation while the pickup selector switch is in the middle "both" position.

The Mustang GT40 is a digital modelling amplifier. In short, a computer. P90 + computer screen = buzzes. The ticking sound is probably synchronised with the amp screen refresh rate.
    Be seeing you.

Thanks mate. Yep all that sounds on the money. Single coils are worst but the ticking is still present with HBs yet nothing with the electro acoustic. Didn’t read that this was a common issue with the mustang tho and I’d be surprised if it’s the norm. Probably an issue with mine.

And after all that, it was a charger plugged into the adjacent socket to the amp. A simple unplugging of said charger and voila... no ticking noise and pretty quiet p90s as things go too. Happy days!
