My job as a children’s worker has been mainly filming and editing videos rather than real kids clubs etc. since March 2020.
My LUMIX bridge camera (circa 2008) has coped, but I am ready for decent audio and better quality imaging from a new camera.

My budget is £750-800 and I need to be able to have an aux. in for a decent show mount microphone.
possibles... Canon 250D or M80?

but can anyone else advise me?
thanks Jon

I use two older canon D cameras for 1080p TV and online video filming.  Quite a bit for education. I use an external mic.

i’d be looking at a 700D or 60D 70D and later models beyond. 2000D   Not used the M80 or M50.  They are all going to be good, esp. with a decent lens.  Budget might be stretched to get a better lens with it though.  Second hand older D model maybe?   The cheaper ones have a smaller sensor which will effect your lens focal length.

There is ‘magic lantern’ firmware for the older Canon cameras for more videography control if using a DSLR for both stills and video.

I think you will find that the more recent models are substantially better for video. I wouldn't restrict myself to DSLRs in your shoes, quite possibly one of those mirrorless things would work better.

(I know my DSLRs but have never done any video and have not tried to follow developments on that front in any depth or detail. I've pretty much lost interest in cameras since Canon stopped making nice new DSLRs.)
