Street fighting man Oasis vs Rolling Stones

Love the oasis version, I remember hearing it the first time when I was in my teens and I had no idea it was a cover until I discovered the Stones.

    Madness.  (Not the band)

If we’re talking Madness (the band) then I prefer their version of It Must be Love to the original by Labi Siffre.

As for "when am I ready?"  You'll never be ready.  It works in reverse, you become ready by doing it.  - pmbomb

Song to the Siren - Much prefer This Mortal Coil’s version to Tim Buckley’s original.
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

Nothing Compares 2 U- Prince vs Sinead O'Connor vs Chris Cornell. I really like the Cornell version.

I don't suppose that anyone will know this or be interested enough to listen, but My favourite would be Big Big Train's cover of the rather obscure Master of time by original Genesis guitarist Anthony Phillips.

This song has a guitar solo that I really like (played by Dave Gregory of XTC), comes in at around 3.40

Purple Haze - Winger vs. The Jimi Hendrix Experience

Kidding of course, but I do like the Winger version and I think it was quite bold (as love) to take it on.

Ah @Winny_Pooh - a thousand wisdoms for Madeleine Peyroux!

I heard that one morning on Wogan's show while driving to work, I thought "I know that song - what is it?" - but didn't catch her name.

I ended up looking up the Radio2 playlists to find it, and got the album asap.  What a voice she has!

If we all liked the same thing the world would be a boring place!

    Can't argue with that.

@axisus I've been a fan for as long as I can remember, my mum had loads of Barbra Streisand records and used to tell me this is proper singing...  I've never regarded it as a guilty pleasure, Sugar Baby Love by the Rubettes is a guilty pleasure (shit did I say that out loud?)

I suspect not many folk know the Kenny Rogers and the First Edition hit "Ruby don't take your love to town" is a cover, the original was recorded by Waylon Jennings three years earlier.

If you listen to the original version then see what Kenny did with it you can see why he became so famous.  The original recording was done in one take, apparently.

Yeah, I'm not really guilty about it, just kind of putting it into context seeing as I am sat at work right now with a Trivium T-shirt on!

Her voice really is beautiful, exceptional control.

James' So Long, Marianne and Lloyd Cole's Chelsea Hotel are great covers of Leonard Cohen songs. I prefer them but perhaps sometimes I think I find Cohen's originals are just a bit slow and a bit of pace brings them to life.
Can't sing, can't dance, can handle a guitar a little.
