What films have you watched recently?

Law Abiding Citizen. Generally my kind of film, pissed off guy gets revenge on the system that fucked him. By and large thought it was good, but the ending let it down.

"Django Unchained."

Normally I'm not a huge fan of Tarantino, but this was a superb effort. Christophe Walz was excellent as ever, and apart from descending into stupid comedy a couple of times (the KKK hoods piss-take, and the thing with the horse at the end), I would say it's the best film of his I've seen.

Alice in Wonderland. Odd. Loved the visuals though. The Sorcerers Apprentice. Enjoyable tosh. Loved the tributes to Fantasia. Alfred Molina was ace.

Exam

A bunch of people in a room taking an exam, only a not a normal exam. Quite good; the end doesn't quite live up to its potential but a reasonable watch.

I watched this old film called 'A Fish Called Wanda'.

I think it was kinda ignored when it was released and no-one really saw it since.

It was good.

Quite an odd, verging on distressing,movie at the start but becomes more about the martial arts fight sequences.One for anyone who likes a film with people with learning disabilities karate chopping ladyboy gangsters. The end credits are interesting - out takes of people getting hurt!

Pacific Rim

I'm halfway through watching this right now and as far as I can tell it's basically Power Rangers with bigger budget and worse acting. I don't know if it was the lenses or film quality or just the CGI/green screen lighting match done badly but it looked more like a TV show than a movie. 

I get that it's basically just an excuse for giant robot to fight on screen but it's really total rubbish. How were so many geek blogs creaming themselves over this earlier in the year?!

Also, I have no idea why everyone thinks Idris Elba is so good. Between this and Prometheus I seriously don't get it.

We watched "The Iceman" yesterday - very good indeed

Then you're missing out. I advise starting from series 1 though if you're going to watch it.

There you go then! By the third series it was getting a bit silly but if you can find the first series well worth a look at least.

He was pretty good in The Wire. And Thor. In fact I thought he was good in Pacific Rim as well.
