'Black Dynamite' - spoof blaxploitation film, done in a Machete-esque 'so-bad-it's-good' way. Laugh-out-loud funny, well worth a look and eminently quotable.

Nazis from the centre of the Earth. Typical SyFy channel crap with bad acting & dodgy FX but the title dragged me in, a bit like Nude nuns with big guns >:D<

I watched Jurassic Park in 3D IMAX.

    3! D! Dinosaurs!

I'm perhaps a little biased as I'm a fan to start with, but I thought it was the best application of 3Dness I've seen to date. Better than Avatar even... Somehow it totally recaptured the joy and awe of a shorter, more optimistic me.

The 3D actually gave an impression of genuine depth and perspective...

    Also, giant 3D TRex!

First time watching the bluray on a big TV with 5.1 sound. Wonderful. Still ridiculously odd, but soooo amazing to look at and listen to. A proper classic for good reason.

Also, recently watched 'State of Play' which I thought was pretty good.
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

  • Daughter made us watch "Life of Pi" last night,  "cos its awwwwwsome".

It wasn't.  Thought it was actually quite ordinary and in parts a bit dull.

I don't think people understand... there are 3D dinosaurs in IMAX screens RIGHT NOW which don't suck...

Anyone seen "End of Watch" with Jake Gyllenwotsit?

Always thought it looked good and might give it a punt before my Netflix sub runs out.

The "Abbey Road" of sci-fi movies?
I think the special effects of the day didnt really convey what was supposed to be going on, which is a shame as the first 2/3rds stand up very well

    Koyaanisqatsi, on DVD.

Hadn't seen it for about 25 years... back then it seemed hypnotic and powerful. This time it seemed dated and pretentious. (And not just because a lot of the images are so clearly from the late 70s/early 80s.) Maybe the small screen doesn't do it justice, but I don't think it's just that.
Agree, except for the bit toward the end where the rocket capsule is spinning back towards earth whilst the Hopi Indians are intoning 'Koyaanisqatsi' over and over and over.

Still nuts after all this time

  • @joneve - End of Watch is really good, I'd recommend it.

This weekend I watched The Other Guys and Captain 'murica.

I really enjoyed The Other Guys, though they got all the comedy just right for that type of film...

Captain America I thought could have been brilliant... just seemed to not have enough Captain America - they pretty much did 90% of him being awesome in a montage which seemed to imply that he won WW2 on his own - though in a montagey way

  • @Myranda (btw, am I using the @ thing right?)

I think Will Ferrel is amazing in The Other Guys, I'd have wanted to slap Marc Wahlberg the minute he started acting like a brat but Ferrel just out crazies him in such brilliant ways, and it's great to see Michael Keaton in a comedy again.

  • Will Ferrell is -comedy, so when you put him in a comedy movie what you get is:
    comedy-comedy=0.

He's not even anticomedy - if he were, you'd at least get some sort of comedy/anticomedy annihilation which might provide some very brief entertainment.  As it is, you're just left with 90 or so minutes of Will Ferrell cancelling out what comedy there might have been, and the realisation that you're a little bit closer to death and you spent some of your remaining time watching Will Ferrell.

I shall probably be watching Star Trek: Into Darkness tonight.
