I'd suggest first buy an FXIII then sell some,  maybe all,  of your amps... then probably buy them back

  • Nope!

I like the Axe FX, but for one reason or another, I just couldn't settle and had to keep dabbling with IR's, which gets frustrating. That's just me though. I loved just about everything else about it.

I would recommend you borrowing or getting one for the trial period though, Drew, I think you'd like it a lot more now than you did back when you had one. The III is absolutely superb.

After buying one, I gradually sold most of mine, and just kept the ones that were really inspiring to play.
I think Jim did much the same.

It's a lot easier to record from an AxeFx than mic'ing up amps

Honestly, if I were considering that, I'd just get an FM3 to dip my toe in the water.
I'd suspect that you'll find the experience moreorless like playing the other modellers, whereas I'd imagine the experience of playing any of your amps is not really much like playing a modeller....If I had to guess anyway?

No, but I still think the Axe FX III is the best of all the modellers.

Sell the Quad and the Kemper and buy and Axe FX III.

Keep the Amps, buy an Axe FX and a Kemper, plus more amps.

    Maybe a helix too..........

I found that the Mk3 has much more realistic amp-feel than the Mk2
and I am very fussy about that

I do still have 3 amps though

    No.

You have some amazing amps that will hold their value far better than modelling kit. Reversing the decision would cost a lot more in the long run.

If you want an Axe3 then save up for it!

  • AxeIII is £2,162.67 door-to-door including VAT (2542.212EUR), but not sure about import duties? Anyone have any idea how much extra I can expect on top when buying from G66?

Take the base price inc shipping and then add about 25%. That should cover the vat and the import then.

bear in mind if you send it back you have to reclaim the duty and VAT from HMRC, so trial and return is not so convenient these days, better to borrow one in the UK
to make the claim, you need some info from the customs declaration, and it can be very hard to get the info required from some couriers. It took a few calls to get from Parcelforce, but took 3 months and probably 50+ hours to get the info from UPS, although I now have personal email IDs I could supply to get it done quicker if you ever need them
