Filing down a normal humbucker to fit a Dimarzio routing

What's Hot
What are your thoughts on cutting down the tabs on a "normal" humbucker to make it fit a Dimarzio routing?

I am thinking that the metal dust could get into the humbucker and all kinds of issues could ensue, and that is assuming that the vibrations from the dremelling don't damage the coil.

Am I over thinking it, or is it a done thing? Routing the guitar body is an absolute no-go.

You are over thinking it.  Just cut to rough shape with some snips and file it smooth.  You can wrap the pickup is masking tape first.

Vibration alone won't damage a coil, heat might  so I would stick to hand tools.  It will only take a minute.  Although you would have to really be overdoing it with the dremel to cause issues

That is AWESOME. Thank you. The baseplate looks tough and I have been wary of "snipping" my way through them, and don't have a dead pickup to experiment on. Looks like my weekend is going to be busy :)
