Microtubes 900 amp V1 vs V2

Vintage-TVintage-T Frets: 405
I'm on the lookout for a new bass head for the bass player in our band. His amp went pop, and he's not really into gear, so I said I'd do a bit of research and try and find something suitable.

I like the look of the Microtubes amp, but struggling to find info on the differences between the V1 and V2 of the models.

Anyone had both care to shed any light?

Seems like I can get hold of a V1 900 for about 500 and a v2 for 7-800?

Any help, very much appreciated \m/

  • They both have the B3K and VMT circuits.
They both have DI outputs. They are both mentally loud with the right cab.
They both have clean / drive blends and all that good stuff.

V2 has a different EQ system with a graphic rather than rotary controls. No real advantage either way, good sounds in both.

The V2 also has a built in compressor and has an IR loader so the IR's appear on the DI and the headphone out (not on the speaker outs of course) which can be great for a FOH signal or recording.

V2 also has some very limited midi control in regard to triggering the drive channel with other gear.

  • Thanks for the info

is the 900 overkill? Would the 500 models be more than sufficient for gigs?

  • Get the 900.

I've seen a few failures of the 500 for some reason but none for the 900.

And headroom is always good to have.
