Actually I nearly suggested industrial...but in the style of its first incarnation, pre ministry, nine inch nails, skinny puppy etc. (I.e. throbbing gristle). So the challenge would be to ditch traditional instruments and make tracks out of sfx generated from your environment....shopping trolleys, pans, metal bars, tin foil etc. Probably wouldn’t get as much involvement as horror, but we could maybe keep that in mind for a future challenge
You know I'm not really much of a fan of early industrial, i prefer the later stuff when it became a bit more melodic. I find some of the early music by Cabaret Voltaire, Gristle etc to be unlistenable. Very creative, and certainly pioneering, but not something I enjoy listening to. I don't mind a bit of noise, but not endless minutes of it.
I can understand that - I'm one of the strange ones who like that stuff. There's a german band (Einsturzende Neubauten) who's early work kinda bridges the two sounds....I heard they actually adopted their style as a matter of convenience as they were broke and had to sell most their instruments. Good to know if im forced to sell my gear i can fall back on recording washing machines and swinging bats at shopping trolleys!

Don't mind EN so much, but I don't think a lot of the early formative industrial stuff has aged well tbh. A lot of it sounds very of it's time and clunky. Even Skinny Puppy, KMFDM, Revolting Cocks etc I find a bit naff. I like where industrial has gone and what it's influenced, more than the actual early stuff really.

    5 points @Snap - great Jan Hammeresque/Hans Zimmer sci-fi synth track.

    3 points @Habanero - great industrial vibe for a sci-fi TV mini-series.

1 point Dirty Snake Mouth - loved this track - reminded me of the VLA theme tune for the hit TV show damages.

Sadly, I ran out of time but I have a half-finished track.

Let's go with the horror theme for the next one, but I'll make a note of the 'gunslinger theme' for the one after that.

I'll bear that one in mind as well.

Open to hearing any ideas. Maybe we can have a vote for a future challenge.

Any ideas for the theme for the next one. It would be good to choose a theme that keeps things as open as possible.

You could always just use something like this to come up with a song title
