Watched his official video for the first time.

It's SUCH A BORING SONG and everyone in the video looks really bored and emotion less.  Why on earth does anyone celebrate this song.

Wtf is purple rain anyway?

I’ve never really “got” Prince. Or Stevie Wonder.

The Beatles were rubbish, weren’t they? That Miles Davies - should have played some more notes man! BB King - should have learned how to tap and started using some gain.

The live 18min version from the Purple Rain tour VHS in the 80s is what made me want to pick up a guitar.
My Trade Feedback Thread is here

Been uploading old tracks I recorded ages ago and hopefully some new noodles here.

We all like different things. I can’t stand John Lennon’s Imagine but enough people think it’s a classic so I guess I’m in a minority on that one.
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

I'd have thought when they filmed the video the director would have told everyone to look really into it,  look passionate,  look moved about something,  but they all just stand there gormlessly.

I still don't know what purple rain is, is he talking about standing outside in the rain and some purple light is shining through it?

    Aha apparently:

Prince explained the meaning of the song as follows: "When there's blood in the sky... red and blue = purple. Purple rain pertains to the end of the world and being with the one you love and letting your faith/God guide you through the purple rain."

They needed to get some better actors into crowd for the video I reckon.

Purple rain is a pub classic mega guitar solo song in my area. Most people, including me switch the Key to A and widdle out in F# pent mixed with some tasty targeted notes over the 4 chord.

I'm not a fan of the original though, just way too eighties sounding and his solo on the record never seems to get going.

I can now tick hearing shred violin played through a high gain amp with a touch of chorus and reverb, off my bucket list.

Expecting lyrics to have a clear, literal meaning seems to be misunderstanding the purpose of about 90% of lyrics in the history of pop and rock. Purple Rain is a phrase that scans well and lends itself to turning some purple stage lights on during the solo. And Prince had a lot of purple coloured stuff.
And sounding too 80s in the 80s, well shocking.

I believe the original lyrics were about "golden rain" but Trump threatened to sue. ;)

  • Isn't it about the end of the world, being with loved ones etc etc..?
I think that's a beautiful sentiment which many of todays 'artists' could aspire to conveying in their music. But no, apparently being at the club and making stacks of cash are all that's important

You mean you don't like it. That's fine, don't trash the song as though it's objective fact though.
