Earworms

What's Hot

I try not to listen to Springsteen Radio Nowhere because that can hang around in my head for days despite me not really liking Springsteen much.

Currently it's Doctor Doctor because I've been tabbing out the intro and riff so we can play it at our regular jam night. Lying in bed as I'm typing this and it's there in my brain even as I'm typing.

That one by Kylie. Don’t want to recall the song.
Roland said: Scales are primarily a tool for categorising knowledge, not a rule for what can or cannot be played.
Supportact said: [my style is] probably more an accumulation of limitations and bad habits than a 'style'.

Oddly enough I think they are good for musicians. You are listening to and hearing the melody and not playing it mechanically. Can be a nuisance sometimes but on balance be glad of them for the above reason.

I love the irony of the song title :)

Endlessly fascinating, both psychologically and musically. Not a new concept either. In the 17th and 18th centuries the term ‘maggot’ was used for catchy tunes and used in more or less the same context.

When I hear the term I always think of that moment in the book/ film Touching the Void- the bloke has just fallen into a crevasse, lying there in agony, preparing to die, and ‘Brown Girl in the Ring’ by Boney M pops into his head. Damned if he’ll die to that, he crawls to salvation…

I've had Don't Go Breaking My Heart by Elton John and Kiki Dee as a regular earworm for the last 35 years.  It's a proper good tune that

That's a corker of a track - think I first heard it when I was 8, not an ear worm for me but a great track that I have time for.

You have an earworm and are desperately trying to identify what it is from the three-second snatch of music going round in yout head. Annoying.

Then your attention is diverted to something else and the earworm goes. Now not only can't you remember what the music is called, you can't remember the bloody music itself. Infuriating.

  • Love Foolosphy by Jamiroquai is this weeks earworm. The 'seems so true, all the lies you're tellin', tragically compelling' part specifically.

    Good song though.

We’ve been opening our set with that track for too long now. It’s a tough one to kick into from a guitar perspective, my right arm feels just about ready to give up by the time the tracks done.
