1978 ( wide neck ) and I traded a reasonable amount of limbs for the current market I think , maybe a knuckle too many .

I was watching that on eBay I have a notification set for everything '78 in guitars.

He started it quite high and then discounted it a bit.

Good score but I hope you negotiated.

Is the scratching on the back as bad as the photos or was it even just a dodgy reflection?

Looks a belter either way. Enjoy!

Very nice. Black 355's are where it's at. The 78/79's are wide necks really notice it on my 347.

How's the weight? the maple neck can add a bit and they seem to use very large centre blocks in that period, though yours will have the cut out for the Varitone choke though the choke adds best part of a pound! Speaking of which, do you like the varitone?

@Iamnobody the back isn't pretty but may get refined at some point and who looks at the back:-) the top/head and neck are in A1 shape. I negotiated a little more, but you don't see so many wide neck 355 unless you go modern or 60s.

@eschap feels heavy(no issue to me I'm big) , not weighed it but defo much heavier than the 63 335 (as you'd expect with the neck and choke) and the Howard Roberts Fusion. Not had much of a fiddle as yet with the varitone. Btw it's walnut , so your black one still stands alone :-)

Well it's certainly a dark walnut!

They're really powerful sounding guitars, the late 70's ES's, I think it's the extra weight plus the maple neck, like the LP customs of the era.
