Backing track videos - how to get chords to come up on screen..?

I'm trying to make a few backing track videos for people to jam along to on youtube - does anyone know what program I need to get the chords etc to come up on screen as they go by?

Check out Elevated Jam Tracks etc to know the kind of thing I mean
Thank you

  • That looks interesting @spark240 thanks.
My workaround for the minute is to take whatever background picture I'm using - usually a stock guitar photo - and add the chords to it using text.
I make however many of these that I need for the project and import them into imovie.

I can then stretch them so that the chords change with the music.

It's not anywhere near what I'd like, but does the job!

Here's my first attempt of this kind of thing. I do have a couple of other backing tracks on my channel, but I'm looking to get into the general jamming backing track game, for fun really.

Personally I would prefer to see the chords being played, I mean I get this is a Jam over type track, but some folks might actually want to play the chords as well. and it makes it a bit more visually interesting ;-)

I'm not sure I quite understand what you mean? :)

  • Do you mean have the guitar track removed so they can play rhythm over it?
Or do you mean have the chords go by one at a time on the display rather than reading like a lead sheet

I believe he means he would prefer to see you playing the chords too rather than a pic of a guitar and probably a section before hand that walks through the chord shapes making it accessible to beginners?

Depends on your target audience and purpose though, maybe what you have is all you need.

    Oh I see.
It's not a bad idea. I'm not exactly sure if it's necessary, but all input is super helpful and appreciated
