My wife won’t allow a Gibson Explorer or Flying V in the house…

What's Hot
So it will have to be a Firebird… I’ll show her!

Strange relationship. I buy what I want with the money that I earn and the Mrs does likewise.

Mrs A's rare commenting on guitars would be along the lines of "I used to like the blue one" (that I sold). That's about as interested as she gets.

My wife is very dubious of me having a V too. She says they look like toy guitars.

She also dislike SGs, she calls them “earwigs”.

  • My wife isn't a fan of Explorer or V shaped guitars. Our son is keen to get an Explorer as he's become a big Metallica fan recently. She's got nothing against having these guitars in the house though - she just thinks they look shite.

  • I think it is because she lets me hang them everywhere..  and there will be more in her library next.

She is actually pretty engaged with it all… knows all the gibsons, fenders and eggles by model type and has two guitars of her own.

I suspect her taste and insights are better than mine.

Can't you just keep them all in your wing of the house?

When I came home with an SG in a case Mrs Snags took one look, before I opened it, and said "Oh, it's a baby guitar", and thus has it been known ever since, the baby guitar, despite all protestations to the contrary.

My wife couldn't play guitar so she had no say in what I bought.
She'd have been hard pushed to tell a guitar from a drum kit.

As always, lumping Flying Vs and Explorers together is insanity. Explorers are a beautiful '50s American angular design, sadly hijacked by metal players.

Flying Vs are disgusting, like a gardening implement gone awry or a massive fly with two bums instead of a head.

You could freak her out completely and bring home a reverse V.

My wife wouldn't know the difference between any guitar acoustic or electric ,
" why do they all make a noise ? "

My Gibson Flying V has been the guitar of choice for 12 years now. I’m not sure what it says about me, but frankly, I don’t really care. Les Pauls and Strats are so passé.

  • I think the Explorer is a great, iconic shape.   I loved the Ibanez Destroyer as a kid too.
