Varitone switch issue.

Any ideas how I can solve this issue with a varirone switch. 

The switching secton works  and feels secure with no movement but when you reach the third position (it's a 3 way) the actual  pot starts to move underneath  but the top securing bolt is tight.

There is not much thread left in the shaft, also what is the best tool for tightening this type as I am using ab adjustable spanner which kind of works  ?

Room for a spring washer between the pot and the body?

Is the switch surface mounted on a PCB or the old-fashioned wafer layers type? The chassis that keeps the layers together could be working undone.

Will take it out tomorrow and see if they have added washers on the underside  which I can then remove and add the above - thanks.
