Shoot me down if I’m wrong but if that was a JV then the serial number would start with the letters JV. This one starts E, making it an E-series. I have a 1985 E-series Tele. It has sentimental value to me but I’m aware it’s not on a par with the JVs.

Ahh I thought it was alll just classed as Japan Vintage for the 80s 
pretty sure it’s an 88

According to Tony Bacon’s book ‘Squier Electrics’, the JV serial was applied from 1982 to 1984, and E between 1984 and 1987, so your guitar is likely earlier than you thought. 1988 would begin G or H. He does say the dates are approximate though!

True. A "JV" series Fender serial number would always start with those letters. Most JVs are Squiers but there some Fender JV series guitars about. The JV always refers to a vintage reissuee of some sort.

However, Fender never did a paisly stratocaster in the 1960s (only a relativaly small number of teles) so this could not be considered a reissue as such. Also, a late 60's period correct maple neck would be a two-piece job with the fretbaord glued on as a seperate piece as all maple fretboards were special orders at that time.
