Valuing an Overwater bass?

Hi all,

I just took this wonderful bass in trade but I’m a little unsure on value. I might keep it but curious to know what it’s worth, as trading or selling to buy a lesser model might make more sense, as I don’t often play bass.

It’s the equivalent of a Classic J4 from mid-2000, immaculate with original Hiscox/Overwater case, but with Fender CS Classic 60s pickups and a John East J-Retro 01 Deluxe pre-amp system.

It was made for Mark Hodgson and was apparently used on sessions with Amy Winehouse, etc.

Any ideas welcome.

Thanks!

I don’t know about value but the bass player in one of my bands has a sea foam green version of the same bass (not sure on the spec of the electrics on his though) and it sounds fabulous!

Edit: his is a five string.

So, not a helpful post from me, sorry OP

@Rowby1 This is a beast - I just don't think I can justify keeping it!

The problem with Overwater is (like most custom builders) - they can be expensive to commission from new but lose a lot of value on the used market.

I've seen similar spec J's go on Basschat for £1000 - £2000 and it will totally depend on whether someone is looking for one. The CS 60's pickups are great, and the John East J-Retro is one of the best preamps out there (IMHO). I'd start at the higher end of this range and work from there.

Not my thing unfortunately, but it's so nice to see a modern but quite retro-looking instrument that isn't another 'relic'.

I would agree with Bridgehouse - it's difficult to be more accurate.

Have you tried listing on Basschat as well? Most of the likely purchasers will reside there…
