Has anyone here used waterborne spray lacquers on a guitar? I'm going to be getting another kit and fancy trying a sprayed finish but waterborne would be preferable for what facilities I have (ie a garage!). Edit: I don't have a spray gun so I'm thinking rattle cans!
Failing that, I might try nitrocellulose from Manchester Guitar Tech, which are widely recommended (and of course the service is unparalleled!).
Colour wise, I'm thinking of a metallic finish or a high gloss solid colour, going onto a bound ash body, so the binding will need scraping before clear coat. Any recommendations, or should I just go for nitro and build a little cardboard spray booth?

They do a primer, colours and top coat.
i've just ordered some milk paint to try as quite a few people are using them on guitars for thin easy waterbased finishes now.
might be worth asking these guys what is suitable for a guitar

Milk paints can look nice, but probably need a clear coat or wax/oil on top to protect it. I'll take a look around that website I think I might get some of the poko sprays and do a test piece, see what it's like, but it's an expensive experiment...
Fish oil?
