I've only seen one stigg a few years ago it was at the kempton guitar show, i think it was being punted out by Gary winterflood,  I think I heard prices were around £20k which is nuts, not that I buy anything so it doesn't matter.

Looked like a nice lp that's all I remember.
Must've been fitted with 50s PAFs and harware .

Tbh can't remember, it was Phil Harris that showed it to me.

I think a second hand Morgan is over £10k with standard hardware and pickups.

How are they able to sell them. It's certainly not legal is it.

There's a market which has been discussed here before, it's all subjective and some maker snobbery.

Yeah I get that but I'm surprised Gibson's legal department haven't been all over this one.

I'd love to know how many Bartlett has punted out, it's big business simple as that.

Exactly, so why aren't Gibson on the case?

I don’t think they really waste much time on replica guys now. Most builders only make a few a year and theirs so many small builders out there now I think it would be futile and a wast of resources trying to track them down and send them all C&D’s.
Instead of chasing them down I think Gibson should just try to focus on making good guitars which is what they seem to be doing. That being said I have a replica by a well known builder and it’s better than any modern era Gibson and cost a fraction of what todays Murphy Labs are going for. But it will be harder to sell so theirs always a trade off.

I agree thought that I’m amazed how Bartlett hasn’t had a letter though, not only is he making but offering plans too.

I would assume Bartlett did get a cease and desist for the replicas.

Probably but he still makes them, I'd also guess he's sold more than his legit models.

But not advertised on his website, or obvious on his social media.   I think that is likely where the difference lies legally, if not morally.

I would assume the retrospec model came as a responses to a C&D letter.

I'm not sure about the plans he still advertises.  I assume selling an accurate drawing of a guitar with measurements is not looked at the same as making an instrument from those drawings.  You can claim its a piece of art until you build something from the plan

    FTFY.

And to whom it may concern it’s Stig not Stigg!

Didn't Gibson make a replica of the replica that Slash used?

^ Yes, but Gibson were just correcting the disturbance in the Force that the renegade maker Derrig had caused.

  • @fretfinder I thought that too. But Gary Winterflood, who commissioned these guitars, calls them 'Stigg'. Obviously the top gear guy is Stig with one G though. So who knows?

So if his name was Barry Winterflood the guitar would be a "Stigb"?
