I haven't watched the video, but from what I understand to hit emissions targets they will have to be phased out unless some inexpensive electrofuel is discovered.

yes,  I thought the planned cessation of production was already "a thing"

I have all electric heating (dunno why the previous owner didn't have gas heating put in when he renovated, the village has gas). I dunno how much more than gas it is, but it is more. I am able to keep my elec bill down to £5 a day currently by making sure I only heat the rooms I use, though that is fairly simple with individual heaters in each room, it's a bit of a faff (for example, to use my music room I have to remember to put the heater on in there about 1/2 hour before I want to use it).
If they are to phase out gas heating (which, as I understand it, is the case) then there will have to be some form of govt help similar to how gas gets a subsidy (I think I read that somewhere it does) else lower income people will really suffer.

for years, most of our heating came from firewood, which I either harvested from the holding or got from one of the places I worked, so was "free" in that all it cost was my labour. One time we made a tank of oil last 18 months. It has come as somewhat of a shock that I now have to pay to heat the house!!!

Oi and my neighbours happily make contributions to our cess pits. Drains needs a bit of rodding from time to time, though there's an interesting problem in that nobody know where there all are.

The concerning bit was that the boiler manufacturers have got to sell X amount of Heat pump systems over the next few years or they get fined.. so get ready for the big push...

There would, presumably, need to be much tighter controls on new installations. In our street of new builds, all properties were inspected post-installation and remediated because the flue in the roof was inadequately supported. Was told that the installations were all done by apprentices and that qualified fitters only touched the system to switch it on....

Sounds about right...prices are so tight on new builds its probably the only way to make them pay.

  • The money they are wasting on high speed trains, nuclear weapons , bogus  apps like track and trace etc ,could have put solar panels on every roof in the country and still be left with enough to sort out the NHS etc
