Translucent black. A friend has a sadowski in this colour looks black until it catches the light

If you're going for a high gloss finish, dark sunburst would look very good.

If you like the purple - my choice -  some nice off white binding would un-shred it immediately.

I know what you mean about the Mary Kaye - one small wrinkle is that I like that colouration so much that I already have a solid-body tele just like that, but I do think it's lovely. 




I should probably do some work that will pay rather than cost me money...

That looks really nice, although personally I’d go even darker at the edges. Do a Google for the Bonnie Raitt signature Strat in Desert Sunset.
