Could I put a lower rated speaker in my amp?

So could I put a different impedance speaker into my peavey special? Thinking of a Celestion k100, but with the amp being 130w I don't want to risk blowing a new speaker straight away! If I put a 16ohm version in, would that mean the amp couldn't deliver it's full load into the speaker?

    Yes.

It probably won't sound as good as the Black Widow though. But lighter, if that's why!

Or you could try the G12B-150 which comes in the Marshall 1912 cabs - you sometimes find them going second hand quite cheaply because people want to put different speakers in the cabs. Like the BW, it's a smooth, bassy speaker so it might suit the Peavey quite well, and it's also lighter than the K100.
