Lovely instrument and in great condition, just four small dings as far as I can see (photographed) and little to no fret-wear. Sadly it has rarely come out of its case (which is in super condition) because I always reach for ye olde Lowden. Year is 2015 so the label is signed by Bill Collings - something which will add to its appeal in years to come I guess. It'll have to be a collection job (I'm in York) although a meet-up isn't out of the question.
I'm not interested in trades I'm afraid as it sort of defeats the object of having a guitar clearout .  £2850

QI - Just received the original build specs from Collings and it's a 1 3/4" nut , well , just under in actual fact but that's what they call it.

Is this the standard 11/16 nut width?
0reaction image LOL 0reaction image Wow! 0reaction image Wisdom
  • You know I'm not sure that it is. I never thought about it until you mentioned but if I've measured at what I assume is the correct point it's nearer 1 3/4" , as per the short scale model BUT it's not short scale it's the full 25 1/2" . In retrospect this is maybe why I felt it was so comfortable when I bought it as I have a job getting on with tight nut spacings (cue Benny Hill facial expression). I've added photos above - sadly my vernier caliper is metric but you get the idea.

That looks just under 43mm to me, which is the standard 1 11/16 nut width. The 1 3/4 nut is closer to 45mm.

  • If I've measured it in the right place (debatable) the vernier reads a smidge over 44mm - the zero is the mark, not the end of the metal.

  • Is it the vintage now or modified v neck please ( interested in the saddle spacing. Apologies for the geeky question ( typical finger picker ). Regards Mark.

Hey Mark - geeks welcome. Well I've been trying to work it out but without seeing the build sheet I'll never really know. The saddle spacing suggests it's a modified v at a smidge over 2 3/16" .  The nut could also be a slightly undersize vintage now, but I think it's maybe closer to being a slightly oversize 1 23/32" . So all in all I'm saying Modified V I've been a pro guitarist all my working life , I'm nearly 61 and I'll be honest I stopped looking at specs about 20 years ago when I discovered (quite expensively) that i don't have a clue about my preferred dimensions. Consequently I was oblivious to the specifications of this OM - I bought it because to me it was the best guitar in the shop. However, truth is I always return to the same old 3 instruments so seems pointless insuring and hoarding the rest -  another lockdown epiphany !

If you email Collings, they will probably be able to give you the specs. I found them to be very helpful

  • Excellent ... Top tip chaps. Thanks.

  • Well joeW & camf I did like you said and got a reply within 2 hours - incredible. Here's what Collings said: This guitar originally shipped on 06/22/2015 and has a 1 3/4" nut width, as you suspected.
They also added the full build sheet so I'm equipped for any question WHATSOEVER !! Respect to Collings and clever forum chaps.

  • Standard - 251/2" ..... I can now say with 100% confidence coz it is writ large on the spec sheet
