    1. Dartmoorhedgehog - I love wood, and always appreciate a non-standard design.
    2. Flip - I like the de-constructed design idea.
    3. Paulnb57 - I admire the metalwork, even if the circuit didn’t work as planned.

    They are all great and having failed to reach my target I hate to even rank these, but I'm going with this:

    1 @Downbytheriver
    2 @DartmoorHedgehog ;;
    3 @Roland ;;

    But once again, all of them are brilliant.

  • SCORING is now CLOSED!

    I think this was a great challenge with every single project being brilliant.

    Without revealing too much of the intricacies of the final scoring process, I can say that the best scoring projects were:

    1. Dartmoor_Hedgehog’s fabulous mandolin

    2. Roland’s headless wonder

    3. Paulnb57’s stylish six-string

    for everyone else, an honourable mention and thank you for sharing your efforts.

    There are no prizes except for our undying admiration!

    Now - does anyone really want another challenge? Does anyone have a theme? Or shall we relax and take stock for a while?

    Please feel free to comment below on the challenge projects and the prospect of a new challenge.

    Wow, thank you all, I honestly never expected that!  I feel rather an imposter with the likes of @WezV and @Andyjr1515 regularly making far more impressive stuff than I ever could.  But FWIW I'm very happy with how this mandolin came out - I altered the setup a bit yesterday now it's had a chance to settle in with the string tension (lowered the nut slightly and moved the bridge a bit) and it really does play extremely well.  Definitely the best instrument I've made.
    So I ended up with a nice useable mando and a warm fuzzy feeling that people appreciated seeing the build thread - so win win
    Thanks again folks.

    EDIT: From my original entry post
    "
    I'll post the build updates anyway - it's not as if I'm likely to win anyway"
    Perhaps I need to be more optimistic  =)

    Well done. It’s a fascinating piece of work, and the pictures make me want to pick it up and play it.

    Congratulations to the three winners and thanks for organising the challenge. Back in January, it felt like a gentle stroll but in the end, I found it quite hectic and, as I mentioned earlier, I learnt a lot. Thanks, everyone.

    Another challenge? Yes, although not immediately.

    Theme? The attraction for most people seems to be challenging themselves to do something. We’ve all got different experience, facilities, interests, and time. Rather than setting a challenge by outcome, such as Build a Telecaster, or Make a Pedal, we should choose a theme like Red or ‘69.

    Definitely this. Let’s get Easter out of the way and come up with something…

  • I agree, a more general scope is a good thing and will encourage more entries.  And the variety makes for a more interesting read.
