I've had a lot of fun with this one, which I picked up looking like this:

Step one was to remove the pickguard and also the tone control after which it look like this. I was also surprised to find that the DiMarzio tone zone was connected in parallel - but it sounded good.

Finally installed a black pickguard and also a push-pull volume pot with a 0.1nf capacitor along the shunted serious connection to ground for single coil simulation.

The only problem is that now I’m going to need to learn some Van Halen shred type songs - and how I wish I looked as cool as this guitar does.

That's interesting, it has a pickguard but it seems to be rear-routed, too. Did it originally come with a pickguard? EDIT: I'm going to guess it didn't- looking at the RG Genesis 550 on the Ibanez site, it has a pickguard and doesn't appear to be rear-routed. I'm guessing the original owner added the pickguard to hide the routing for the other pickups...

Very nice work D Matches your seat
