OK, a little rainy afternoon challenge- list your 5 or 6 fave guitarists and the solo (and version) that absolutely defines them TO YOU.

    Mine:

    David Gilmour- High Hopes Pompeii
Alex Lifeson- Limelight (prob R30 version)
    Gary Moore- Tore Down 1999
Craig Ross- Believe, - Any live version.
Earl Slick- Let's Dance, Glasto 2000
Adrian Belew- Stay, Sound and Vision Tour 1990

I love DG's lap steel work

Have you got into playing lap steel yet yourself?

ah yeah - good call,   about the only one I can match  "fav guitarist"  with "fav solo"

I think of great solo's  and its not my fav gutiarist, I think of fav guitarists, and there isnt "really" one solo that for me identifies them/stand out amongst their others

PG is probably my favourite guitarist although I rarely listen to his stuff now.

The others are just solos I like, by players I like (by association).

I can't help about the shape I'm in, I can't sing I ain't pretty and my legs are thin

But don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to

@CHRISB50 Peter Green is a good one, I ought to have included him in my list
He's probably my favourite guitarist. Jumping at Shadows, is one amongst many, but it's probably my favourite bit of his playing that I've heard. Pretty crazy to think he improv'd it too.

I'm not as big into technically great players as you lot so some of mine will probably sound a bit lame in comparison but these are the solos I like listening to from the guitarists I love.

Jack White - Icky Thump or Ball and Biscuit, any of the solo bits (White Stripes)
Jimmy Page - Dazed and Confused (Led Zep)
Jeff Buckley - intro to Strange Fruit
Have to agree with Brian May Killer Queen also - masterful. Likewise Ronson on Moonage Daydream.
Velvet Underground - Pale Blue Eyes. don't know who in the band played it but it's so simple but unique at the same time, beautiful
Nick Valensi (Strokes) - Vision of Division
Please note my communication is not very good, so please be patient with me

Played by Al Anderson, Paul Kossoff’s mate, Bob Marley guitarist and one of the most inspirational live players I’ve ever seen. For a wonderful guitarist who played on internationally famous songs he doesn’t usually get much of a look in on guitar forums.
