Fender Jerry Donahue crimson red telecaster

I just bought this and it’s a very fine guitar but I basically like a simple traditional three way tele so this JD, with its five way configuration, is on the block. 

Double bound Basswood ‘62’ style body (some websites say it’s an Alder body, I’m not sure).

52-style ‘V’ profile Maple neck, 7.25” radius, 21 frets, vintage style tuners.

3-saddle bridge.

5-way pickup selector:

1. Strat neck pickup, tone control out
2. Strat neck pickup with volume and tone controls
3. Both pickups, in parallel
4. Both pickups, out of phase, with caps for simulated “quack”,  no tone control
5. Bridge pickup with tone and volume

Excellent condition but one or two dings.  The most significant one is in the last photo.  

I think this probably started life with a black pickguard, but looks terrific with a mint green one. I have  ow replaced the pictured guard with a black one (see third image) but I will include both in the sale.

yeah, my first proper guitar back in the day. Must have just been released. Perfect - Tele with a Strat neck pickup, what's not to like. I'd be so tempted with this but not got the funds at the moment.

I don't really know much about guitar prices, but in this instance I think I know a bit, £719 for one of these in this condition is very reasonable. They have often had the switching changed, so good to see an original. As far as I know they're all basswood which is a good thing. One of the best models Fender made (I think)

Bought one of the very first of these to arrive in the UK in 1992, also in red. Had it ever since...30 years, hard to believe.

It still holds up well against the Custom Shop Teles I have had since

Absolutely the best tele switching system out there on these and the neck pickup alone has nearly sold me on a strat several times. Perfect if you love vintage necks.
