Fret crowning - how round is round?

I made the mistake of wearing my magnifier headset to do some crowning and have noticed that while my concave diamond crowning file does a pretty good job, I'm still leaving a roughly 0.5mm flat spot on the top of the fret.

Is that OK, or should I really be looking to get it to the exact shape of the file?  My thoughts are that by making it completely round I'm risking removing material from the top, therefore ruining my fret level job.

I'm also not sure I like the concave file. It's the right size for the frets I'm working on, but I think that using a standard file might give me more control and accuracy?

Id say that .5mm on the top is about perfect... im sure other people may have other ideas on that though  

And for a crowning file I use a triangular one with the edges rounded off.

Crimson did a vid on this recently (and doing rounded ends).

Subsequent polishing after crowning rounds the flat. .5 is spot on. If it is a nice and straight and down the middle that's as good as it gets.

Agreed. I just done a day course with A really good tech and he said .5 on top. Good Job
