This is exactly why Yamaha sell tons of THRs. Totally living room friendly, looks nice, sounds nice.
Marshall SV20 looks like a largish heavy amp and sounds loud, quele surprise .

Which one did you go for?  The Harley Benton?

It'll be for gigging, so I'm not worried about how it sounds quiet. Actually, sometimes it'll be unmiced, so it needs to be able to compete with a loud drummer. That said, loads of clean headroom isn't a must. Sounds wise, I don't need massive gain - think more Fugazi or AC/DC-style tones instead of Slayer. Overdriven but not saturated and with tons of definition and dynamics. I guess the Plexi with a boost will do the trick.
You'll probably be fine without a boost then tbh! I still like the JCM800 because you can adjust the gain up or down, with the Plexi you're kind of stuck with whatever it has depending on your volume, but can obviously clean up from the guitar volume if that's your thing. The Plexi does sound really good though

I picked one of these up last week to let me push a champ at spare-bedroom volumes. It's a great piece of kit!
Granted it's not plexi volumes, but still a great affordable tool to have around

I was actually bidding on one on eBay a couple of days ago.  It eventually went for more than the price new.  Crazy!

I always wonder about that, it seems silly to me too. I suppose, to be scrupulously fair- did it go for more than the price new plus postage (£8 I think)? Even if it didn't, that's only going to be a couple of quid saving. I suppose if you needed one right now, shipping from Thomann isn't super-quick...

It went for £68.85 including postage.  New would be £66 delivered.

Ooof  :s I guess if you needed it super-quickly (though is there any guarantee a private seller on Ebay will be quick?)...

But yeah that does seem a bit silly. There's getting carried away in the bidding and then there's paying more for a used one than you can get a new one for. With a 3-year warranty.

Tried it yesterday w/ the accompanying cab. Sounded bloody great, but yes very loud and has a lot of headroom, unsurprisingly. I think with a good boost it'll be perfect, though. And it's so light! Speaking of speakers, any good suggestions to darken it up a touch. Greenbacks?

I presumed this meant that the transformers are less substantial?

Tbf, the only time it really bothered me was switching to a back-up Tele...I dialled it out easily enough though.

I do attenuate so winding it up a fair amount beefs it up nicely.

Ridiculous and kind of dishonest that Marshall market these amps as suitable for home use at all.
You have the wrong type of home obviously, time to go shopping  ;)

Yeah assumed as much. I mostly play single coils though.
