Broadband downtime monitoring

What's Hot

My broadband is falling over every 45 minutes or so

Is there an app (OSX) that will tell me how long it’s down for, how often etc.? Or I’m open to another approach…

thanks

@wibble beat me to it  ;)
The Thinkbroadband monitor is very good, also you can grab screenshots to evidence your issues.

It's working well, unlike Sky Broadband....

How do I find out my router IP address rather than the computers? I initially set it up from my iPad so it was registering the system as being down when the iPad was asleep. Now got it going to my desktop but that switches to my phone when the internet drops.

    I'm guessing it's contained here

    LAN Port

    MAC Address00:a3:88:12:32:39
    IPv4 Address192.168.0.1

But I'm not sure which one

Assuming it's for the Thinkbroadband quality monitor just type "What's my IP" into Google and it'll tell you.

just because you don't, doesn't mean you can't

This is work well except for the fact that it monitors an IP address and unfortunately mine seems to change every day. Anyone know of a tool that I can run from a computer at home?

Are you possibly switching off your router at night? If you don't have a fixed IP address (most home users don't) then every time you connect to your provider you will get assigned a new IP. The broadband monitor only tracks a specific IP, so you will need to create a new monitor each time your address changes.
If you aren't switching the router off, then the odds are that the connection has been completely lost.
When the router establishes a reconnection, you get assigned a new IP but either way you will need to set up new monitors.
So the connection losses are proof that you have a problem & it is something that your provider or Openreach can detect & deal with.

No it’s on 24x7 but the last couple of days it’s been showing as down at midnight until I reset the IP address. As I’ve been using the internet before I rest the monitor I assume it’s something that Sky are doing. As it’s been at midnight and then a solid block of red it’s not consistent with the “normal” downtime I’m currently experiencing.

Have you contacted Sky & asked about the disconnects & timings?

No, I only noticed it today. Sky are aware of the bigger issue - slow/intermittent service - we logged it a week ago and they treated it as urgent and an engineer is due on Tuesday!

First they tried to tell the router was faulty, and sent us another one.

By chance there was an OpenReach engineer at a neighbour’s and he confirmed we had a strong connection to the distribution point across the road from us so hopefully it can be fixed soon.

To be honest I’m not too fussed if they disconnect and reconnect at midnight all I want is the service I pay for.
