Having a few days away in the sun in the not too distant future and really want to get back into reading, I have a few autobiographies to read as that is my go to read but fancy getting lost in a story, honestly cant remember the last time I've read fiction, used to like Stephen King and Dean Koontz many moons ago and Weaveworld will always be a favourite.

More recently I have really enjoyed some Bill Bryson stuff but need something new.

What's good to get lost in? I'm thinking something easy and lighthearted.

  • If you like Stephen King I can recommend Billy Summers. it's definitely the best of his most recent stuff. It's not a horror/supernatural sort of thing. Like much of his more recent stuff it's just a straight up thriller.

I was going to suggest the same book. It’s easily the best thing he’s written in years, a really good read.

Not sure if it’s your cup of tea but hopefully it interests you. Btw it’s almost 600 pages.

  • Monty Don - My Garden World.

    Merlin Sheldrake - Entangled Life

Both are easy going enough, lots to learn from them and just lovely. Monty Don is a good writer, entangled life is one of those books that is endlessly fascinating.

I really struggle to find any fiction that really engages me, Mostly read history

Blood Meridian - by Cormac Mccarthy and Under the Volcano by Malcolm Lavery are definitely worth a read if you haven't already,

    Never read an autobiography

11/22/63 by Stephen King.  Brilliant and riveting take on the JFK assassination.  If you're looking for something music-related, I loved 'Dear Boy: The Life Of Keith Moon' by Tony Fletcher.  Harrowing to be sure, but a great read.  Also highly recommended is Mark Ellen's 'Rock Stars Stole my Life!: A Big Bad Love Affair with Music'.  Lots of great anecdotes, especially that relating to Meatloaf, but prepared to have any love you have for Jimmy Page and Roy Harper kicked in the nuts.
