1960's Kay Archtop - Beautiful Vintage Jazz Guitar...   £600 ONO

Early 1960s Spruce top Archtop Kay built in Chicago USA. Solid Woods. Top is solid spruce lined with a thin maple veneer. Brazilian rosewood fingerboard.

This is a tough one to part with. I got this guitar around a year ago and it's been a great pleasure to play and record with. Has a truly beautiful sound and plays really well with a low action. It's currently set up with Thomastik Flatwound 11's and feels great to play.
It has aged very nicely indeed with lots of beautiful checking and aging to the finish. It shows signs of wear as you would expect from an instrument of this age so it’s not a perfect guitar by any means. But it does what it should and does it with class and ease.. plus it looks cool as anything!

Plays beautifully - has had a great deal of time spent on getting the action right - no need for any fretwork on this. Lots of life left in the frets too. Quality instrument right down to the original Kluson Deluxe tuners and brazilian rosewood fretboard - this was a top level instrument from Kay.

Currently, it doesn’t have a pickup wired in, but it does have a 1/4” input jack in the bottom strap button and 2 conductor cable pre-wired and inside the guitar ready for you to solder your pickup of choice to for instant electric gratification! ;)

I did have a Zoller Shadow AZ48 floating hum bucker on the guitar but it started to cut out intermittently, one of the cables from the pickup needs sorting out. There is still some sticky residue left from where i’d attached it to the body with sticky pads. It will come off of course, but if you intend to fit a pickup, it’ll cover it anyway.

I will include the Zoller Shadow AZ48 floating humbucker with the sale incase you fancy repairing it and fitting it again.

Sadly I don't have a case for this guitar and wouldn't feel comfortable sending it via courier. You can collect from Nottingham, or if you cover some of the fuel cost, I can drive to meet you halfway (within reason). :)

Here’s a recording I made with it a while back…

Here’s one of many videos on my Youtube channel of me playing it...
