Withdrawn 1968 Fender Stratocaster Refin

Resurrection of this one I just took back from Mike in px against my vintage Tele. Nothing sinister in that, this strat has simply become a pawn in Mike and I’s pursuit of our dream guitars and in all honesty this strat is a dream guitar for someone out there I have no doubt. £4500 now firm and that is a very reasonable price for a guitar that would be circa £10k if it was a clean/original example which it plays and sounds identical to… I know because I had one. 

Considering px trades to perhaps enable more opportunities.

I took this on as a bit of a project but life is throwing other things at me just now which need my time and money more so offering it up here for someone else. It’s an incredible guitar as is and I would recommend for any player who can live with the imperfections because it retains all the playability as well as those Jimi tones you would expect from a mint example!!

I rubbed a bit of the finish off the front as I made the decision to refinish per Jimi’s black 68 strat anyway and was certain I would be seeing the project through at that point otherwise yes, I would have done this more discreetly.

Original Parts

Neck (but with marks on front from locking nut system)

Neck and middle pup are original 

Bridge pup is from 1967 and has been rewound

Body original but routed for humbucker and battery compartment

Pretty much everything else changed. More pics, video clips available on request from interested parties.

Since these pics I have also had the wiring for the neck and middle pup changed so now vintage correct (repro) wiring.

It's a lovely guitar to play, and since I owned it I put the correct pearloid backed Pickguard, rear backplate, tremolo arm, and bridge saddles on it. As well as a brand spanking new set of Schaller M6. You'll see in Colins post a similar set of what looks like M6, but in fact they're Ping copies. Worked well enough, but the genuine Schaller M6 that ive put on it now (seen in my photos) are IMO the best locking tuners you can buy, and should be at their cost price. All upgrades done at a considerable cost, so it wants for nothing, stays in tune, and plays great. GLWTS.

Thanks Mike, I was really excited about how this would turn out when I took it on the first time and temptation is still there the see that through but too much else to pay for to commit. Hopefully the next guy does it

There's a refin '68 on eBay for £8k at the moment so @CMW335 one seems reasonable even with a few mods.

Thanks @TDubs I do think I’m offering up a great deal here. The one on eBay looks pretty solid other than the refin but I bet if you were to play the 2 side by side you wouldn’t feel or hear £3500 of a difference.

I have decided to consider px if that helps enable a deal with a forum member
