Dont know what a dsg gearbox is
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-57348573
I know I keep mentioning it but Citreon makes some cars that have a great ride quality.
The "nice if it doesn't look like a bag of shit" comment is somewhat open to interpretation. I happen to think that the civic doesn't look that great.
6) can I have it in blue please - not that shade of blue though
7) under 20,000 miles and under £5000
8) no advisories on any MOT ever
9) or a petrol hybrid
10) or gold - gold is good
11) but if it's gold, it has to have a red interior
12) leather interior
13) the foot pedals can't look worn
14) no-one has ever said anything remotely neutral about any aspect of it, ever, on any forum

16) what do people think about hydrogen powered cars
17) I don't like the self-dimming mirrors
18) must have an AM radio because I'm old

22) sorry, repeating myself there, I already said it wasn't to look like a bag of shit
23) can you dismantle the dashboard
24) I'd like the same colour paint all over
25) wheels no larger than 16"

27) preferably 4 wheels - although will consider 3
28) seats must be comfortable
27) or uncomfortable - I'm quite generously proportioned, so I can't feel them either way
28) No 2 doors - although will consider 3
29) can't have a model name beginning with G.
30) or any combination of letters and numbers involving 5, X & M

42) I'm not travelling 8hrs by train to go view it
43) not this time
44) still with me - I can do this for hours
45) days
46) what about a Jag?
47) but 45+ mpg, and no diesels
Oh look, a Honda Civic, that ticks none of my boxes, I'll have it.
No DSG options here but if Emp expects to get a car with a good performing DSG system without spending a lot of money then he will be disappointed .......even Porsche / VAG Audi didn't get it right until 2012 onwards in their high end vehicles.

Foresters are tough. I've taken mine - first the red one, now the newer green one - all over the outback, on-road and off, it's just dealt with every challenge thrown at it. Awesomely good car.
BUT:
(1) it doesn't get anything like 45mpg. Try 30-odd.
(2) That's the standard petrol version of the legendary Subaru boxer. Later on they made a diesel version out of it but that was not a success. Forester and Outback people say it has reliability issues - not horrendous like some cars, it's still a Subaru after all - and isn't a patch on the always-excellent petrol flat 4. Subaru themselves seem to agree - all the latest model Outbacks and Foresters are petrol-only.
I had a 1.6 TDI Bluemotion Golf that would do a genuine 75mpg+ on my extra urban commute. Only the EGR and DPF stuff stopped me getting another diesel..
I bought my first one new in 2004 and happily did well over 350,000k in it before an extended family member put her same-but-newer one with a third the mileage up for sale. She was planning to buy something cheaper for the odd times she actually needed a car now that she was home with youngsters instead of working. So we swapped with cash her way. Perfect solution! My old red one went for a good while longer before she bought something new and flash. Meanwhile, I've put a zillion more miles on the green one. I'll be doing the timing belt on the next service (210,000k) and plan to do at least another 100,000k. Mrs Tannin has a new Outback with all the trimmings and it's rather posh, but I prefer driving the old green bus. All else aside, it's modified with raised suspension for bad tracks and a second battery, underfloor storage, various other useful things. Tough as old boots, goes anywhere. Far more practical in the outback than an Outback!
