You think the 12v system won't have enough juice? I know what you mean that you want the relay inside the house ti run 240V to the shed. You could always get a couple of transformers.
Go wireless 2.4GHz with a 200m range. Or get a wireless intercom for £66 odd. I use these people for stuff. First is a good local company.

Don't really know to be fair, but alarm systems, nurse call systems and the like are all basically the same system and worth looking at for components. Commercial door buzzers usually operate off the 12V alarm panel. I'd look for a nurse call system or something maybe.
Fitting another 12v buzzer doesn't work then? Your doorbell should be an 8 or 12v system with a transformer somewhere eh?
What about power sockets? Can you send a signal down the mains using homeplug or something?
thanks for the links, can't see what I need on them though I am afraid
I want to trigger a wireless bell in the summerhouse from the mains-powered bell (which I also assume has a transformer somewhere to 12vDC)
The summerhouse is a long way from the house
The house bell-buttons are original old round metal ones original to the house, and fitted into the brickwork, so don't want to replace the house bell system, just add a remote wireless sounder on to it

Guess you could fit an extender/wireless sender to the buzzer nearest the summerhouse?
For hassle free maintenance dig a trench.
Must be a reliable doorbell extender about that plugs into your mains socket and connects to your doorbell 12v open/closed circuit and uses the mains circuit for a signal, kind of like Homeplug products extend your wired ethernet access around your house. You can simply pick up the signal from the doorbell by plugging in a receiver in a socket outlet in the summerhouse..
If not that is a good invention, as it doesn't need batteries, won't potentially interfere with your 2.4GHz wireless modem or lose signal and because the signal is a basic or on or off, it will probably go through a couple of consumer units too. If I can download porn down the mains circuit, you could probably stream video or have a conversation from your front door through your mains as well no doubt.
I mean even if the signal is lost through a consumer unit, it is a lot easier to put a radial circuit and an internal socket on the 240V feed to the summerhouse, than it is dig a trench and lay some 12v or cat cables down.
I'd do some research on this, as it would be the most reliable and you could potentially easily retrofit video and audio monitoring too..
Right, I've been thinking about this all day whilst crowning trees. If you have an existing 240V SWA line to your summerhouse, you must be able to make use of it somehow, by running a digital signal down it from the door bell, rather than either have to rely on 2.4GHz wireless which will have drop outs or digging a new trench for more CAT or bell wire cabling.
I would look for something with an Ethernet out port and plug it into a Homeplug type device and same at other end at your summerhouse.
this looks good

trouble is with the wire based idea is that I already use a network through the mains, and there are many rings in this house, the summerhouse runs directly off the meter on a separate fuse box even. I'll have more of a look at the instructions on the things on the pages you sent, ta
Don't want my Mrs to hide in the summerhouse if there's a guitar being delivered, and no bell can be heard!
Well glad you got something initially sorted. Next time, bury more cables than you need. I just put new skirting back after redecorating and am already wondering why I didn't run some Ethernet Cat 7 and speaker wire. behind it to a small chase with a socket or two. Still never mind. I did kind of fancy my 90's separates hi fi, walnut floorstanding speaker man cave. Still stuck around 1995.
I know plenty of customers with the latest wireless CCTV, big homes, no expense spared and the signal dropouts are ridiculous.
Wireless is crap I reckon.
I know I have problems with BT saying I can't have another phone port, because of the external bell, but I know you can get away with more than you think with 12v lighting circuits. I think there is some equation somewhere where you can work out the resistance of the wire vs. the current at length. Obviously more copper the better I guess.
