Sorted: Gibson LP Custom ‘54 Reissue

I’ve owned a couple of these and fancy another. 

Not too fussed on year, do let me know if you have one you would consider letting go.

These are great guitars when you get a good one. I've just bought one used in as-new condition for £4,500, so be prepared to pay. They're around £6k new now and GuitarGuitar have a used one up for £5,500!

There are always chancers asking silly money for second-hand guitars, but they rarely sell at those prices. For a guitar with new price of £6,000, I think that £4,500 is at the top end for a used example.

I couldn’t agree more, however I don’t think they are still in production, which seems to be pushing the price up with the ‘rarity’ factor. Although I could be wrong?

They are still produced, but in small numbers. Peach and GuitarGuitar have each had new ones for sale in recent months.

They used to list for the same price as an R8 but then went out of production for a while when Gibson had issues sourcing ebony. When they were re-introduced, they were much more expensive.

There was a run in 2015/16 (or thereabouts) that had overly yellow binding that was particularly unattractive, in my view. Since 2019 Gibson have corrected the inlays and tuners, so the later versions are historically accurate and also include the post-2013 enhancements, i.e. hide glue, no truss-rod condom, etc.

Unfortunately I didn't, £4,496 now seems far too much for this.

thats my guitar and it's up at 3995 directly.

there's no right or wrong..thats just opinion..ive had over 2000 Gibson Les Pauls and ime the 90s ones are a stand out..especially the custom shop stuff.

it's not an urban myth to me as I've had the experience of playing so many and my personal collection consists of 90s Custom Shop stuff.

The exception to the rule is the Collectors Choice run which are amazing guitars.

90s is a stand out for me followed closely by the early 2000s stuff which again I have in my personal collection for that reason.

I recall seeing that for sale in its “modified” form and it was quite a sad sight. Locking nut and a Licensed Bigsby… brought tears to my eyes.

Just to recap..your opinion is the modern custom shop stuff is better than the 90s Custom Shop stuff?

This one was sat on eBay for ages with another private seller in Ireland. Eventually they kept dropping the price and I think it sold, to its current seller for maybe as little as £3k, which given the mods, was probably the right price. At least the current seller has tried to right the wrongs in terms of the mods.

thats my guitar..it was more then 3k plus flights..hotel costs.

replacement parts costs and labour costs to get it to where it is now.
