Anyone taking any for of nootropics and if so does anyone recommend a stack/blended option?

I’ve just started taking Lions Mane, but looking in to things further, there are a lot suggestions.

Looking to improve focus, energy and memory.

WTAF does any of this mean?

I’m so bored I might as well be listening to Pink Floyd

Some would say "snake oil" or "placebo effect" while others will be prepared to enter a vociferous "tonewood" argument in support of the supplements.  My opinion is that if focus, energy and memory are waning, then there's something a little bit deeper going on than unproven supplements are likely to fix, for instance testosterone defficiency, thyroid malfunction, poor diet, poor sleep patterns, and so on.
Example (read the comments and the whole "freedom from oppression" vibe):

Test, exercise and sleep all fine. Just looking to try these out to see if they have an effect.

Sounds like quack drugs to me. On the other hand, if anyone finds benefit, placebo or otherwise then I guess that's the main thing. Let us know if you think they work!

If I was testing I'd go for

    1 feels beneficial taking drug
2 lose benefit coming off for a while
3 beneficial again taking for a while
4 lose benefit coming off again

Now that I've had a quick read up...

Seems like some more sleep, bit of exercise, and eating more green stuff would do the job.

I've heard lots of people talking about this stuff, but I've always been generally suspicious.

I think as others have said it might be worth investigating if you already have a great diet, exercise, sleep and stress levels, but if not one of those is probably going to pay off as your focus rather than supplements.

Not sure why it’s that had to believe that a mushroom can have an effect on your brain. If anyone doubts it, I’m sure a “trip” can be easily arranged. ;)

I think Lions Mane is generally accepted to have cognitive and stress benefits. Lots of doctors recommend it for people with ADHD https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/323400#potential-benefits

    I’ll see how it goes.

Other one I was interested in is modafinil but I’ve heard it can impact you sleep. It’s basically an awake drug.

  • When you say stacked options are you talking about microdosing medicinal mushrooms and lions mane together? If so look at the Paul Stamets Stack.

No one is doubting that narcotics have an effect. That would be stupid.

The doubt is whether the effect is beneficial, and whether that beneficial effect can be achieved in other potentially safer ways.

  • I’ve just been reading about Lions Mane’s possible benefits for anxiety and depression. As someone who’s been taking fluoxetine for nearly 20 years I’m intrigued.

Make sure they don't clash if you want to try anything on top.

I've got a relative on it and they got a bit of a lecture about some other slightly less official stuff they liked to imbibe occasionally.

I wouldn’t mind a bit if that too, if he can get me some!  ;)

Since taking barbiturates my sleep patterns have greatly improved. I don't need any of this quackery!

"Its probably best for you to research Beta Glucans and look up the Science on these and see what they may help with. We can not suggest what they may help with due to the partnership between MHRA (UK Gov) and Big Pharma."

I'm out. They're not allowed to claim medicinal properties because they cannot prove them.

Although I'm starting a grow your own lions mane kit later this morning!
