Why weren't they more popular? Mezcal Head is a great album.

Hugely influential band. Lost count of the amount of groups that cite them as an inspiration.

There were so many good, yet fairly unknown bands from that era including Lush, Catherine Wheel, Slowdive, Chapterhouse, Ride, etc. It was one of the great genre movements in UK music history, but it seems like My Bloody Valentine are the only ones who got any real recognition from the music press.

Lots of good stuff, but Never Lose That Feeling is my favourite.

I saw them live a few times in the 90s and they rocked. Definitely deserved more credit but I think they got chewed up when they tried to sign to a major label.

I remember when Son of Mustang Ford came out, I thought it was the new Dinosaur Jr song.

There was a rumour that when they supported Soundgarden on tour in the 90s they were more popular with a lot of the audiences, so the Soundgarden teks started turning their volume down. The myth is they would have made it big if that hadn't happened. Probably not true.

Saw them just before lockdown and they still rock.

The press turned on these bands as soon as britpop came along… and record labels lost interest. So many inventive and interesting bands of the early 90’s were finished off by britpop

Yes things started to head south when britpop and lad rock came along.

Swervedriver were/are great. Mates of mine supported them on tour in the US. They did well over there, perhaps better than they did in the UK.

As a sidebar I just watched the Andertons interview with Rick Beato and Rick name checked them as one of his favourite bands.

I'm a fan, seen them live over the last few years - they still got it! Mick Quinn from Supergrass was playing bass for them last time I saw them, I guess an old Oxford connection?

    Love the Swervies.

Anyone remember Dr Phibes and the House of Wax Equations? They were great - prior to the tragic ending.

I think I've got the CD somewhere, the one with the blue cover.
