What's the best way of removing the shine from a poly guitar body to create a matt look.

Is wire wool appropriate?

What guitar is it? You might find different methods depending if it's polyurethane or polyester

I used micro mesh pads (as described here https://www.thefretboard.co.uk/discussion/189370/dulling-a-sticky-neck#latest) to make my Tele neck less sticky which also made it more matt

I used some 320 grit sand paper on the neck of my vintage ( brand) strat.

Just enough to take the shine off.

If you use steel wool, make sure you mask the pickups off as the bits will get everywhere.

I used the epiphone les Paul method as shown on video by Nathan Sink. Dulling the finish down with very mild scouring pads and then Tcutting and bring back to a satin ish shine with car polish.

I particularly like the fact that it's plugged in to the amp on the back of the truck.  Probably sounds like Carlos Alomar on a really bad day.

I done that too once. Iirc It's good to have a wee sander, the type that jiggles about, to get it evenly random, rather than obvious lines/swirls that you might get doing it by hand.
